The lungs are the main organ of the respiratory system as they perform the important function of exchanging gases between the body and atmosphere as well as carrying oxygen to the blood coming from the heart, from which oxygenated blood is carried to each and every cell and organ of the human body.
Lungs are two in number and located in the chest cavity, which are covered by ribs on front and sides while they are protected from back by the thoracic vertebrae. They are soft and spongy in nature and are divided into areas called lobes, the right lung has three lobes that is upper, middle and lower lobe while the left lung is divided into two lobes that is upper and lower lobe the middle lobe is missing in left lung because heart occupies that space in chest cavity. The lungs are inflated with air and contain the most important parts of the respiratory tract, the bronchial tree and the alveoli (alveoli are sac like membranous structures present in the form of cluster of grapes, they are involved in the addition of oxygen in the blood and removal of carbon dioxide from the blood).
In case of any damage to lungs the oxygenation function is badly effected and this results in hypoxia (low levels of oxygen in blood) leading to difficulty in breathing and angina (pain in and around the heart). Pneumonia, asthma, bronchitis and COPD are the most common disease that harm the lungs and alveoli.
Following are the main diseases involving the lungs. The main symptoms produced in all these conditions include dry/productive cough, pain in chest and fever. There may also be suffocation (inability to breathe) and also dyspnoea (difficulty in respiration)
Bronchitis is an inflammation of bronchi (the air tubes in the lungs) this disease is mainly caused by infection in the lungs, smoking, exposure to cold etc. Bronchitis is characterized by productive cough with chest pain and excessive phlegm in the chest cavity leading to difficulty in breathing.
Asthma is an allergic condition of lungs caused by hypersensitivity reaction in an individual to some allergen. Major allergens causing asthma includes; pollen, perfume, nuts, dust etc. Asthma is characterised by extreme difficulty in breathing and an excessively productive cough.
Pneumonia is described as lungs inflammation induced by bacterial infection, with pneumococci being the most common cause. Pneumonia is associated with symptoms of productive cough, high grade fever and chest pain. It can be fatal in young and weak children, also in elderly individuals with some chronic debilitating disease.
COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) is commonly seen in chain smokers. This disease is a typical result of long periods of continuous smoking. If a person keeps on smoking for a few years than the mucus producing cells are triggered leading to production of excessive phlegm in the chest cavity. This phlegm obstructs the airways causing difficulty in breathing and suffocation. Once triggered there is no cure to this condition
The respiratory health is very essential for life and lungs have a very crucial role in respiration process. If there is any problem in this organ then it can lead towards different diseases i.e. Asthma, Bronchitis, Pneumonia and COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). So, extreme care and precautions must always be maintained to keep the lungs in a healthy state.

Special investigations to diagnose secondary amenorrhea Hemoglobin, total and differential counts and ESR Blood sugar to rule out diabetes Mantoux test for tuberculosis Endometrial histopathology following D/C for tubercular endometritis; culture for acid fast bacilli Vaginal cytology for hormonal status Hormonal estimation including T3, T4, TSH, FSH, LH, Testosterone USG of uterus and ovaries Laparoscopy to confirm sonographic findings Hysteroscopy to rule out endometrial tuberculosis and uterine synechiae X-RAY chest, X-ray of the skull, MRI may also be required in some cases GnRH stimulation test
Causes of primary amenorrhea Patients with normal puberty but structural abnormality – Mullerian agenesis: A congenital malformation in which there is failure of development of mullerien duct responsible for development of female genital organ. Vaginal atresia: Vagina is abnormally closed or absent. Cryptomenorrhea/ Imperforate hymen is a condition where menstruation occurs but is not visible due to an obstruction of the outflow tract. Hymen is imperforate and do not allow the menstrual flow to come out. Patient feels cyclic pain and discomfort without any menstrual discharge. Patients with growth delay and developmental retardation Hypogonadism Gonads are the sex glands produce sex hormones. Sex hormones are responsible for reproductive function in human. Gonads receive signals from pituitary gland in the form of FSH and LH to release sex hormone and pituitary receives signals from hypothalamus in the form of GnRH (gonadotropin releasing hormone). This is called hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian axis. Hypergonadotropic hypogonadism signaling from hypothalamus and pituitary gland is normal but gonad are not able to produce sufficient quantity of sex hormone for normal functioning of sex organs. Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism There is disturbance in signaling either from hypothalamus or pituitary i.e. disturbance in releasing hormones from hypothalamus or pituitary, due to which gonads cannot receive enough signals to produce sufficient quantity of sex hormones. Patients with virilization increase amount of male sex hormones in female. This causes development of male secondary sexual characters in female. Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) adrenal gland is a pair of endocrine produces sex steroids. Androgens are male hormones produced by adrenal gland. Hyperplasia of adrenal gland results in over production of androgens. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) Disturbance in releasing of female sex hormones and increase amount of male hormone leads failure of development of egg each month in ovary result in amenorrhea. Diagnosis of primary amenorrhea Primary amenorrhea may be a symptom of many disorders. A thorough history and clinical examination has to be done. Relevant laboratory and other investigations including hormonal assays, karyotyping, pelvic ultrasonography, and diagnostic laparoscopy has to be done to confirm this.

The selection of remedy is based upon the theory of individualization and symptoms similarity by using holistic approach. This is the only way through which a state of complete health can be regained by removing all the sign and symptoms from which the patient is suffering. The aim of homeopathy is not only to treat amenorrhea but to address its underlying cause and individual susceptibility. As far as therapeutic medication is concerned, several remedies are available to treat amenorrhea that can be selected on the basis of cause, sensations and modalities of the complaints. For individualized remedy selection and treatment, the patient should consult a qualified homeopathic doctor in person. There are following remedies which are helpful in the treatment of amenorrhea: • Pulsatilla • Senecio aureus • Cimicifuga • Graphites • Apis mellifica • Ferrum metallicum • Calcarea phos • Sepia • Lilium tig • Platina • Conium maculatum • Dulcamara • Xanthoxyllum • Kali carb • Sulphur • Tuberculinum • Lycopodium
While there are many possible choices in the homeopathic treatment of low back pain, here are some of the most common remedies: Belladonna: For violent, acute low back pain. The pain is severe and can be burning, throbbing, shooting, or spasmodic. The intense spasms come on suddenly and leave just as quickly. Might be worse from motion or jarring, touch, taking cold, or a draft of air. The person is also worse from lying on the painful side, at 3 p.m., and after midnight, and is better sitting up. Bryonia: The person is in extreme, even violent pain, and the pain has a stitching quality. They are worse from the slightest motion and much better from rest and hard pressure. In fact, they often lie on the painful side to maximize the amount of pressure they can apply to the area, while simultaneously minimizing motion. They are worse from warmth and better from cold air and cold applications. Although the back pain is intense, it comes on relatively slowly. The person may also have great thirst for cold drinks and may be irritable with a desire for quiet. Kali carbonicum: A sense of exhaustion in the back, or the back may feel broken. Perhaps most important, the pains have a stitching nature and are much better from pressure, yet are worse lying on the affected side. Those symptoms may be enough to successfully prescribe this remedy. The person may also have to walk stooped over, and the low back pain may extend down the thighs. In women, back pain may occur during labor or the menstrual period. They are chilly, may develop a cold sweat on the forehead, and are worse from slight exertion. The pain is worse from cold and better from warmth; and worse from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. or 5 a.m. They are afraid of being alone and greatly desire company; however, they often treat their company poorly, even though they desire their presence. Natrum muriaticum: The person feels as if the small of their back is broken, and they feel better lying on a hard surface or firm support. In sadness, the person dwells on past events and is often resentful or hateful toward someone that caused them grief. They cry alone because they are averse to company and consolation and, oddly, they may laugh over serious matters. They are intolerant of sun and often crave salt. Phosphorus: The pain is often as if the back is broken, or it may be a burning pain. The person is often chilly and is anxious about their health or worries about others. They are much better when someone is sitting right there with them, giving them sympathy, and their back pain is better from rubbing/massaging. They have great thirst for ice-cold water. Pulsatilla: The person has back pain that is worse from first motion and better from continued motion and rest. But back pain is much better from cold applications and worse from warm ones. The person tends to be warm-blooded and worse in a warm stuffy room; yet, oddly, they are thirstless with a dry mouth. The person may be timid, weep when telling their symptoms, feel lonely, and be better from consolation. Rhus toxicodendron: For the person whose back pain comes on after overexertion, especially from lifting something too heavy. The pain is aching and the low back is stiff. It is worse from first motion, yet better from continued motion as well as better from hard pressure such as lying on something hard. The person is restless from the pain, which compels them to move constantly or to frequently change positions. The pain may come on with exposure to cold wet air, cold drafts, or before storms, and it is much worse from cold applications. Pain is better from warm applications (often as hot as possible). Sepia: The person needing this remedy has a weak feeling in the low back, and the pain is better with hard pressure, from lying on something hard, from warmth, and, most characteristically, from vigorous exertion. Their symptoms are often worse in the late afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. The person can be indifferent to their loved ones and desire sour or vinegary foods. They love the sun. They can also love thunderstorms and dancing, yet they are intolerant of contradiction and are very sensitive to music.

Make sure to sleep on a firm bed and wear comfortable, low-heeled shoes. Try one of the following remedies for additional relief: Belladonna: Pain comes on fast and disappears just as quickly; its worse from sudden jarring movements and from touch. You’re very restless. You may have a flushed, red face with dilated pupils, and be thirsty for lemonade. Older women with their first pregnancy respond very well to Belladonna for backache. Bellis perennis: This remedy can stop the pain of sciatica of pregnancy or any pain in the groin extending down the legs that makes walking difficult, which often comes on during the last months of pregnancy. Kali carbonicum: You have a bruised, dragging feeling with sudden, sharp pains up and down your back, buttocks, and thighs. Pain in the hip joint is common. Hard pressure over the painful area offers relief, but your feel worse from touch. You’re very sensitive to changes in weather, cold, and drafts; you want to be warm, but not overheated. You have a sensation of heaviness or bearing down in your pelvis as if everything might fall out. You may be depressed and chilly.
The homeopathic treatment of chronic arthritis, whether osteoarthritis, rheumatoid, or another form, can be quite effective. The best time to initiate homeopathic treatment of arthritis very early in the course of the disease. It is typically a complicated process that requires the expertise of a professional homeopath to assess the whole person. The most severe cases of arthritis, where the damage to the joints is too substantial to be reversed, are incurable. In some instances, however, it is possible to successfully treat arthritis at home. Try the remedies below for treatment at home, but be sure to follow up with a homeopathic professional if you don’t see any improvement: Bryonia: Pains are worse from the slightest motion, better after rest. Pains are also better from pressure or by lying on the painful side. Caulophyllum: Arthritis in women, of the small joints, particularly the fingers, hands, toes, and sometimes the ankles. Pain and stiffness can alternate from one joint to another every minute. Small joint problems plus uterine difficulties. Colchicum: Arthritis worse during warm, wet weather, although sometimes cold, damp weather can cause complaints. Worse with the change of seasons. The hands and fingers are most affected; the pains are worse from slight motion. Often associated with other ailments, like nephritis, blood in the urine, and pericarditis. Aversion to the odor of eggs and fish is a strong symptom sometimes seen. Guaiacum: Rheumatic affections of the small joints, especially the wrists and fingers, worse from warmth, and better from cold applications. Kali bichromicum: Periodic arthritis and arthritis alternating with other complaints (e.g. sinusitis, asthma, digestive disorders). Periodicity is often fixed (e.g. every spring or autumn, etc.). The pain is often in one small spot, and may wander to different sites and come and go suddenly; pain may occur every day at the same time; pain is worse between 2 and 4am. Ledum: Painful swelling relieved by cold applications and made worse by warmth. Areas especially affected are ankles, feet, ball of the first toe, and left shoulder and right hip together. “Rheumatism” starts in the legs and extends upwards. Rhus tox: Pain and stiffness. Stiffness is very characteristic. The pain is worse when at rest, with weather changes, especially to cold, damp; by cold; and by initial motion (e.g. rising from a bed or a seat). The pains are helped by warmth and continued motion (once “warmed up”). Restlessness with the pain. Complaints are often left-sided. Rhododendron: All symptoms are much worse before a storm. Restlessness of the legs. Crosses legs in sleep. Ruta: Especially useful for arthritis beginning after trauma (fracture, sprain, bruise). A “lam” feeling in the joints. Pains are better from motion, but person may become exhausted after walking.
It’s okay to use homeopathic remedies at home to help yourself through an acute bout of ¬anxiety resulting from a known cause (e.g., a recent trauma, shock, or loss). But the best way to heal chronic, ongoing, or disabling anxiety is a comprehensive consultation with a professional homeopath, along with supportive psychotherapy as needed. Treatment may change as you heal and grow. Here are some remedies that homeopaths often use to help people with anxiety: Aconite: For acute situations when sudden fears overtake us rapidly. Intense fear (or ¬presentiment) of death, as well as ¬palpitations, shortness of breath, flushed face, and trembling. Argentum nitricum: Fearfulness and anxiety about many things especially bridges, closed spaces, heights, and personal health. Speaks quickly, in a big hurry, and tends to have diarrhea (everything is in a rush!). Everyday -scenarios cause worry, leading to obsessive-compulsive behavior. This can become abject terror, leaving the person feeling lost and insane. Warm blooded, craves sweets and salt, and complains of -anxiety in the morning and before appointments. Arsenicum album: Pacing to and fro, fretting over what may or may not happen, anguishing over their health and that of family members, and needing company. Chilly and thirsty for sips of water, they feel worse at or after midnight. Controlling, fastidious, and critical, particularly when in ill-health. Worries about robbers, insanity, or security and especially about money matters. Burning pains are relieved by heat. Calcarea carbonica: Craves stability, protection, and status (as a form of protection, not ambition), and dreads disaster. Anxious when things are left undone or not going according to plan. Neatness out of concern for contagion and a need for order (vs. Arsenicum “neat freaks”). Listmakers. ¬Anxiety may manifest as anger, envy, hatred, withdrawal, unresponsiveness, despair, or indifference. Gelsemium: Apprehensive and timid, these people feel they haven’t the resources to do what they’d like to do. They dread performances of any kind, for fear they’ll lose control or something terrible will happen. Vertigo, weakness, trembling, chills, diarrhea, drowsiness, and even speechlessness from fright. When trembling, they want to be held. They fear falling, crowds, and fainting (or heart attack); they desire light and quiet. Ignatia: Acute, recent grief or loss. Sensitive, refined, and heartbroken people who are biting their lips or cheeks, repeating to themselves, “I just can’t believe it, I can’t believe it...” Averse to consolation, they may appear defensive, sigh frequently (as if to ground themselves back into their bodies), and experience ¬radical mood swings—bursting into tears or laughter. Lycopodium: Any new challenge creates anxiety due to a severe lack of confidence. They may have an emotional swagger but are easily intimidated by anyone perceived as more powerful. Responsibility in work or relationships can create ¬debilitating anxiety and fear of failure, which may manifest in ¬sexual difficulties, irritability, digestive ¬complaints, and claustrophobia. Natrum muriaticum: Considered the “stiff upper lip” remedy, people who need it are profoundly ¬sensitive and inhibited due to many ¬anxieties; silent with grief after a loss. They are fearful of tight, narrow spaces, anxious at night, worried about robbers, and secretly terrified of being humiliated or rejected. Anxieties are often cloaked by migraines, ¬tingling in the extremities, palpitations, insomnia, and isolation or feigned indifference.
Homeopathy for acne is different from conventional treatment in that a homeopathic remedy is individualized to the person. Because every person is different, no single homeopathic remedy will work for everyone. A remedy is selected based on a person’s unique set of symptoms, including (but not limited to) their acne symptoms. Therefore, seeking care with a homeopathic healthcare provider will likely result in the greatest success when treating acne. Below are just a few of the many possible remedies that homeopaths consider for treating acne: Hepar sulph: Pimples that are very painful; they may feel like a splinter in the skin. Lesions are very sensitive to touch and possibly cold. They may cluster in crops on the forehead and tend to form pustules and whiteheads easily. Discharge may smell like old cheese. In general, the person may be very chilly and oversensitive to pain, touch, cold, and slight causes. Calcarea sulph: Severe cystic acne. Lesions persist in one place for weeks and do not heal quickly. Yellow, creamy pus drains for a long time. Unhealthy-looking skin with yellowish scabs. Pimples on face and near ears and hairline. Tendency to infections of the sinuses, ears, and tonsils that persist a long time. Person may be warm-blooded and feel worse in warm rooms. Kali bromatum: Acne begins in the teen years and continues relentlessly into adulthood. Bluish, red pustules on the face, chest, and shoulders that leave scars, purple spots, or a depression in the skin. Pimples may have a depressed center or be painful, large red cysts with a white or yellow center. In females, the acne may be worse near the menstrual period. The person may have fidgety hands and feed, unpleasant dreams, restless sleep, and teeth grinding. They may be worse from warmth. Pulsatilla: Acne in young girls that is associated with the onset of puberty. Acne that is associated with the menstrual period (especially when the period is irregular or absent) or with pregnancy. The person tends to have little thirst; to be weepy and like comfort and consolation; and to be chilly but like open, cool air and gentle motion. Silica: Deep, hard cystic acne, like boils on the face, especially the cheeks; pimples often to do not come to a head or show pus. Pimples are very slow to heal and leave pitting scars. The person tends to get infections easily and frequently. They may be chilly with sweaty hands and feet. They may be fatigued and lacking in strength and confidence, while also being obstinate with fixed ideas. Sulphur: Acne with very oily skin. Blackheads are plentiful. Pimples and whiteheads are very large but not that deep. The face, especially the nose, is generally affected and tends to become reddened. Pimples may be painless but itchy. The skin may be rough and worse from washing. The acne may also be worse from heat, before the menstrual period, and from eating fatty foods. (This remedy is especially indicated for rosacea, a reddening of the face that causes acne-like eruptions.
Sciatica is a condition that can lead to pain in the back and legs. It occurs when pain travels along the path of the sciatic nerve. This nerve starts in your lower spine, and travels through your hip and buttock and down the back of your leg to your foot. There are a range of different causes of sciatica. In most cases, the condition gets better over time, either on its own or with treatment. Causes of sciatica The causes of sciatica include spinal injury or trauma, bone spurs or other growths, narrowing of the spinal canal, or tight or swollen muscles in the buttock. In many cases, people can’t pinpoint a specific injury that caused the condition. Risk factors for sciatica include: • age-related changes to the spine • obesity, which can put extra pressure on the spine • occupations where you twist the spine or pick up heavy loads • prolonged sitting • diabetes, which can increase the risk of nerve damage Sciatica symptoms Symptoms of sciatica can include pain, tingling and numbness in the leg. Sciatica is felt as nerve pain radiating from the buttock down the back of the leg, often when sitting, sneezing, coughing or going to the toilet. You may also feel lower back pain, and/or tingling, pins and needles, numbness or weakness in your leg. Although sciatica pain can be severe, most people find their symptoms improve in time. As sciatica is seen as a more serious low back condition, it’s advisable to see your doctor within the first few days of getting the symptoms. To diagnose sciatica, the doctor will take a medical history and examine your spine and legs. You should seek medical attention immediately if you have problems controlling your bladder or bowels, or have weakness, numbness or severe pain. Sciatica treatment Sciatica therapies can include drug treatment, lifestyle changes or surgery. The choice of sciatica therapies depends on the length of symptoms and severity of your condition. These therapies include: • special back care education • rest • physical therapies • drug treatment • lifestyle changes • surgery Mild sciatic usually goes away in time. When you first experience sciatica, one or two days’ bed rest may be needed. However, it's important to return to activity as soon as possible, to help your spine stay strong. Preventing sciatica Looking after your back, managing your weight, and improving your general physical condition can all help prevent sciatica. Doing physical therapy at home, such as muscle strengthening exercise, can help to prevent sciatica coming back.
Alzheimer's disease attacks brain cells and neurotransmitters (chemicals that carry messages between brain cells), affecting the way your brain functions, your memory and the way you behave. It is also the most common form of dementia. Dementia is a syndrome (a group of symptoms) associated with an ongoing decline in mental abilities. While the exact cause is unknown, the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease may be increased by a range of factors, including: • age • a family history of the condition • previous severe head injuries • Lifestyle factors and conditions affecting heart and brain health. If you are worried that you may have Alzheimer's disease visit your doctor to get some advice. Your doctor may ask you about any new or worsening problems you may have noticed such as: • forgetfulness • speech problems such as difficulty finding the right words • difficulty in understanding what people are saying • personality and mood changes • Difficulty with performing everyday routine activities. There is no single test that can be used to diagnose Alzheimer's disease. If your doctor suspects you may have Alzheimer’s disease, they may refer you to a specialist to confirm the diagnosis. Although Alzheimer’s disease is not a normal part of ageing, it is more common in older people and may affect about one in four people over the age of 85.
Bell’s palsy is a sudden weakness or paralysis of one side of the face. It is caused by inflammation or damage to the facial nerve. It is usually temporary – most people recover fully. Bell’s palsy is a weakness or paralysis of the facial muscles that usually affects just one side of the face. It is thought to be mainly caused by an infection with a virus. The infection inflames or puts pressure on the nerve that controls your facial muscles. It can be mild, or it can be severe. Most people recover without treatment in 3 to 9 months. Bell’s palsy signs and symptoms The main symptom is weakness or paralysis of one side of the face. It usually is at its worst within 2 to 3 days of starting. It can also cause: • drooping eyelid or difficulty closing one eye • difficulty smiling and making facial expressions • drooping of one side of the mouth • difficulty eating and drinking • drooling • pain or sensitivity around the affected area • headache • loss of taste • changes in the amount of tears or saliva If you develop these symptoms, see your doctor immediately or go to your nearest emergency department. Bell’s palsy diagnosis There is no specific test for Bell’s palsy, but it is important to make sure you don’t have a more serious condition like a stroke or a tumor. Your doctor will diagnose the condition by examining you carefully. You may be referred to a specialist or have tests such as X-rays or CT scans to rule out other causes. Recovery from Bell’s palsy You can help your recovery by: • wear glasses or goggles during the day • use an eye patch or tape your eye shut if recommended Most people begin improving within two weeks and recover within 3 to 9 months. A few people don’t recover fully and are left with some weakness or paralysis of the muscles in their face.
Cerebral palsy is a condition in which the ability to control muscles is reduced due to nervous system damage before, during or after birth. This nervous system damage affects body movement and posture. It often shows up as either floppy or stiff muscles, or involuntary muscle movements. Cerebral palsy can affect movement, coordination, muscle tone and posture. It can also be associated with impaired vision, hearing, speech, eating and learning. Children with cerebral palsy tend to miss developmental milestones such as crawling, walking and talking. Usually, a confirmed diagnosis of cerebral palsy is made by the time a child is 2. If you think your child is showing some of the symptoms of cerebral palsy, or their development may be delayed, see your early childhood nurse or doctor. Cerebral palsy occurs when there is damage to the developing brain in the area that controls muscle tone (the motor cortex). In some cases, the motor cortex fails to develop normally in the fetus. Depending on the damage, cerebral palsy affects people in different ways and to different extents. Risk factors for cerebral palsy can be: • prematurity and low birth weight • some pregnancy complications • an infection caught by the mother during pregnancy • prolonged loss of oxygen during pregnancy or childbirth, or severe jaundice after birth • injury or bleeding in the baby's brain • mutations in the genes that affect the brain's development • being a twin, triplet or other multiple birth The cause remains unknown for most babies with cerebral palsy. There is no single cause of cerebral palsy. The damage to the brain does not worsen with age, but it's permanent. There is no cure. Life expectancy is normal, but the effects of cerebral palsy can cause stress to the body and premature ageing. There are 4 main types of cerebral palsy: • spastic, in which the muscles are weak and stiff • dyskinetic, characterized by writhing or jerky movements • ataxic, in which movement is affected by problems with balance and coordination • mixed, with a range of the above characteristics
Epilepsy is a common, long-term brain condition where a person has repeated seizures Having just one seizure is not considered to be epilepsy - about half the people who have one seizure never have another seizure. Epilepsy is not one single condition; rather it is a range of different conditions that can cause seizures. A seizure is caused by an episode of disrupted electrical activity in the brain and can vary greatly depending on the part of the brain involved. They can cause problems such as a loss of consciousness, unusual jerking movements (convulsions) as well as other unusual feelings, sensations and behaviors. Not all seizures are considered epilepsy. Other conditions such as fever, diabetes, heart conditions and alcohol withdrawal can also cause seizures. There are many different types of seizures, which are generally categorized based on the parts of the brain involved (whole of brain or just one part) and prominent features (such as the types of jerking movements if there are any). Generalized seizures involve the whole brain and therefore the whole body is affected. They include both generalized tonic-clonic seizures and generalized absence seizures. Focal seizures involve only part of the brain. Generalized tonic-clonic seizures Previously known as 'grand mal seizures', these types of seizures are the most well recognized. The seizure begins with a sudden loss of consciousness, the body then becomes stiff followed by jerking of the muscles. Turning red or blue, tongue-biting and loss of bladder control are common. Confusion, drowsiness, memory loss, headache and agitation can occur on regaining consciousness. Generalized absence seizures Previously known as 'petit mal seizures', these types of seizures usually start in childhood, but can occur in adults. These seizures are brief and characterized by staring, loss of expression, unresponsiveness and stopping activity. Sometimes eye blinking or upward eye movements are seen. The person usually recovers immediately and resumes their previous activity, with no memory of the event. Focal seizures Previously known as 'partial seizures', start in one area of the brain and affect the parts of the body controlled by that area of the brain. The seizure may involve unusual movements, feelings, sensations or behaviors. People can have different levels of consciousness during focal seizures. Common triggers for seizures include: • lack of sleep • missed or too much antiepileptic medication • physical and emotional stress • hormonal fluctuations • fever • alcohol or drug use • flashing lights • caffeine • missing meals • being ill or having an infection • allergies • menstruation • severe changes in temperature • stress Febrile convulsions are common seizures occurring in 3% of healthy children up to the age of 6 years. The seizures are generally harmless and associated with an illness causing a fever, such as a viral infection. Management includes treating the seizure if necessary, as well as treating the underlying cause of the fever. In the absence of any risk factors for epilepsy, children with febrile convulsions have a similar risk of developing epilepsy to the general population.

Calcarea phosphorica – for fretfulness, skin problems, vertigo, migraine, and rheumatic problems, coming on after unrequited love. They are often worse the more they think about the problem. They are better on their own, although they cannot settle and move from room to room. Causticum – for illness or ailments after disappointed or unrequited love in oversensitive types who are always sensitive to the plight of others, despite their own cares and woes. Cimicifuga – for depression and the feeling of impending doom after an unsuccessful romance. They may develop painful conditions that feel like electric shocks. Women may suffer gynae-ecological problems. Hyoscyamus – for severe restlessness, even amounting to fits after a disappointing love affair. May become jealous, suspicious, or angry and may tear up love letters or destroy all reminders of their former partner or lover. Ignatia – the great remedy of loss. Reactions may be quite hysterical. There is usually a tendency to the “three Ss” – sitting, sighing, and sobbing. Natrum muriaticum – for the development of ailments like migraine with zig-zag vision, depression, palpitations, and skin problems after disappointment in a relationship, in melancholic types who are always worse for consolation. They may keep their tears for private moments. Sepia – for loss of interest in everything and indifference to everyone, even their loved ones. They may have a general tendency to be “brown and down”, but some physical activity (classically dancing) may transiently lift them. Staphysagria – for disappointed love in extremely sensitive people, where there may be violent outbursts. Pride is characteristic and they may feel indignant because of the personal slight. They may bottle things up and become quite ill. Hate Hate is one of the hardest emotions to live with. Whereas love is associated with the heart, hate has been associated with the soul. When it persists for long enough it can almost literally seem to eat away at the soul. All positive emotions become forfeit to the unrelenting burning heat of hate. When hate rears its head it can never do the individual any good. All sorts of ailments may arise, yet not be linked up with this emotion. It is one of the negative emotions that the individual needs help to release. Homeopathic remedies may help, along with other psychological or counseling techniques. Anacardium orientate – is a very useful remedy in easily offended, hypochondriacal types. They become vindictive and malicious in their hate, although they often seem to vacillate in their decision-making. They may be subject to mood swings; at times being vitriolic with a desire to swear and rant, while at other times they seem on the point of forgiveness. This polarity is characteristic, as is a basic inferiority feeling. They may secretly feel inferior to the object of their hatred. Cuprum metallicum – for hate in those people who get fixed ideas in their mind. They become suspicious and spiteful. If they can even score they most assuredly will. They tend to suffer spasms and cramps and may be aware of a metallic taste in their mouth. Dosage These remedies can be extremely useful in people who have problems with these emotions, or in whom ailments have come about as a result of these deep and powerful emotions. The right remedy in these states can be liberating. As to the inevitable question of potency, when dealing with emotions and conditions arising from emotions, I find that the higher potencies work best. For an individual using these remedies, the 30c taken twice or three times a day for three days should, if appropriately selected, be adequate to start the rebalancing process. Lachesis – for hate in talkative or loquacious types. They can become extremely angry and will look for a means of verbally hurting the target of their anger, and then when they have them at their mercy they go that bit further. It is as if they have a desire to put the knife in (figuratively speaking) and then give it a twist for extra measure. They may feel bloated at times and generally hate having constrictive clothing about their necks. Natrum muriaticum – for hate in melancholic types who are easily offended and who tend to hold grudges, often for years. They can actually seem to nurture their hatred, which they find totally justifiable. They are worse for consolation and generally have a craving for salty foods. Nitric acidum – these people cannot and will not forget a slight, and may feel totally unable to forgive. They them¬selves find it difficult ever to apologize. They cannot let matters drop and maybe incessantly bringing the subject up with family and friends, to the point of losing sympathy. They are generally prickly in nature and may pester people about their problems and their health. Strong text Phosphorus – for hate in creative, artistic types who are very sensitive. They generally like being the center of attention and dislike being shoved from that position, easily developing a hatred of the one who upstages them. They may hold grudges and their temper may erupt swiftly like a newly-struck match. Sulphur – for those people with a strong sense of justice. They can develop a hatred of institutions and organizations. They may be of a philosophical nature, with a tendency to slouch, lean, and fidget. They can be extremely good campaigners because they are so passionate about their hatred. Jealousy William Shakespeare was the first to describe jealousy as “the green-eyed monster” in The Merchant of Venice and then Othello, which is a masterful description of this awesome emotion. Those who are afflicted by it can find themselves perpetrating great acts of maliciousness or smaller deeds of spite. It is a completely negative emotion that can cause harm to the individual, as well as to others through the actions of the jealous person. Defining jealousy is difficult, but I believe that Spinoza encapsulated it when he described it as a “mixture of hate and love”. When there is a real conscious feeling of jealousy, then the following remedies might help. Apis mellifica – for those who tend to be as “busy as bees”. They can be workaholics, controlling types who can be very irritable when crossed. They can be “stung” by jealousy and be very pro-tektite of family and loved ones. When anyone threatens their security, their home, their relationship, they will be prepared to sting back. They have a highly suspicious nature. Physically they are subject to problems with mucus membranes, skin, and joints. They tend to be clumsy. Arsenicum album – for fussy, tidy, restless people. They may become jealous of anyone who possesses neater or more aesthetically refined things than themselves. Hyoscyamus – for talkative, suspicious types who tend to be immodest. Their jealousy may be so intense that they may act rashly and make a fool of themselves. They may go into fits of laughter about inconsequential matters. They may also develop a fear of being poisoned, so will become suspicious of food, medicines and drinks. Lachesis – for talkative, suspicious people who often experience bloating. They are highly susceptible to jealousy and may be driven to fits of temper which comes out as verbal abuse. This jealousy pattern may be apparent in females premenstrually or around the time of menopause. Lycopodium – for worried, highly-strung individuals who anticipate events with fear, often for a disproportionately long period of time beforehand. They may envy people who can carry off any situation, while they agonies for days. They tend to be professionals and may become acutely jealous of their colleague's attainments or popularity. Nux vomica – for fiery, irritable types who tend to use stimulants. They are constantly pressured and are often high-achievers. Their jealousy shoulders on and they are liable to bouts of irritability. They are impatient, never satisfied with their lot and prone to jealousy. They are often plagued with digestive problems. Pulsatilla – for timid, weepy types who are very changeable. They are easily influenced by others. They get peeved at people, become jealous very swiftly, yet will tend to bottle their emotions up. They are rarely thirsty and have to be reminded to drink. Stramonium – for intense, talkative types. They tend to have rapid mood changes and although they may seem placid, they can flare up and feel as if they could do violence. They can bite, scratch, or strike out when in such a mood. They tend to be full of fears; of the dark, of animals, and of being alone. Jealousy may seem totally out of context. They may be prone to stammering.
Eye injuries Scratches, abrasions, lacerations and bruising are some of the most commonly seen injuries. These cases will usually respond very well to the correct remedy, without needing any other treatment. Consider the following: • Arnica montana – patient extremely touchy; traumatic injuries of any kind • Calcarea sulph. – excellent for splinters or foreign bodies in soft tissue around eye • Calendula – used internally or topically • Conium – cataract developing after trauma • Euphrasia – corneal edema post injury • Ledum – bruising; blood pooling under sclera/cornea, in anterior chamber • Staphysagria – corneal scratches/lacerations • Symphytum – blunt trauma to eye (“Arnica for the eye”) Entropion This is a very painful condition, which often requires surgical correction. The following remedies may be helpful in some cases, and even prevent surgery: • Borax – patient displays extreme noise sensitivity; fear of falling (avoids going down stairs or panics when picked up) • Calcarea carbonica – other developmental problems present; soft, flabby, big-boned patients; slow dentition in history Ectropion Many cases can tighten up enough to not need surgery, and involve many of the same remedies listed above, as well as: •Calcarea carbonica – if often needed • Apis, Argenticum n., Mercury, Sulphur Cataract Some cases respond well to homeopathic treatment, especially when the total symptoms shown by the individual are included. Dr. Compton Burnett, a British homeopath in the late 1800s used various remedies, depending on the patient’s symptom totality, and had good success with many cases. He also describes five cured cases in his wonderful book, Fifty Reasons for Being a Homeopath. Dr. Richard Pitcairn3 lists the following remedies as useful for cataract treatment: Conium (especially indicated in cataract following eye trauma, and in older patients), Silicea, Pulsatilla, Sulphur and Euphrasia.
Up to 90% of eye cases have some degree of this inflammatory symptom. Many clients present an animal with eye discharge and want an antibiotic, fearing infection. However, true infections are rare. The ocular organs given the body a route of cleansing and detoxification (lacrimal system), along with the saliva, lungs, skin, gastrointestinal tract, urine, etc. Bathing the eye with soothing solutions can be taught to clients. • Saline: ¼ teaspoon salt in one cup clean, distilled water. • In severe cases, add up to ten drops per cup of water of one of the following herbal tinctures: goldenseal, euphrasia, calendula or hypericum. Here are a few of the most useful homeopathic medicines for various eye conditions with common indications (the symptoms of the patient should be present in the remedy, but not all the remedy symptoms need to be present in the patient): • Aconitum – sudden onset; intense fear; exposure to bright sunlight/ snow reflection or cold weather; early stages with intense painful inflammation; profuse watery discharge; bloodshot eyes • Allium cepa – minor irritations; watery, bland tears • Apis mellifica – swelling is key; chemosis; thick, sticky discharge; thirstlessness • Argentum nitricum – young animals; copious yellow/green discharge • Arsenicum album – yellow/watery discharge; chilly, restless, thirsty patient • Belladonna – sudden, intense inflammation; dry eyes; dilated pupils • Euphrasia – also known as “eyebright”; acrid tears leaving a stain; chronicity • Mercurius (vivus or solubilis) – acrid, thin discharge; pus in anterior chamber; green nasal discharge; irritable nature; sensitive to hot and cold • Pulsatilla – bland yellow discharge; itchy eyes, mild inflammation; resolving upper respiratory infection • Rhus toxicodendron – yellow, profuse discharge; intense inflammation; painful; gluey discharge sticking lids together • Sulphur – end of upper respiratory infection; acrid discharge; itchy eyes and lids; rubs eyes and face a lot Corneal ulcers These are common, and often a sequel to conjunctivitis, ranging in severity from superficial to deep, or even indolent. • Euphrasia – a very good remedy for many ulcers; used topically in saline eye wash, or given orally in potency (or both) • Aconitum – if the ulcer is very painful, and developed recently • Apis, Argentum nitricum, Arsenicum alb., Hepar sulph., Mercurius, Rhus tox., Silicea, Sulphur, Thuya – other remedies to help heal ulcers • Silicea or Thuya – to complete healing of stubborn, indolent ulcers
Primary remedies Apis mellifica This remedy relieves swollen eyelids with itching, relieved by cold compresses. Argentum nitricum Swelling with yellowish or pus-like discharge, and redness and inflammation of the whites and inner corners of the eyes, suggest the use of this remedy. The person's eyes may be tired and achy, worse from light and warmth, and better from cool water, cold compresses, and fresh air. People who need this remedy often have a strong desire for both salt and sweets. Euphrasia officinalis This remedy relieves eye irritation with irritating tears and clear, non-irritant nasal discharge. Sulphur This remedy may be helpful if the eyes are very red and irritated, with burning, smarting, sticking pains and a nagging itch. The whites of the eyes look red and bloodshot, and the tears feel hot. Symptoms are worse from heat, and light will hurt the eyes. The eyelids may look contracted, especially in the morning. Other Remedies Hepar sulphuris calcareum When the eyes feel sore or bruised, with inflammation and burning pain, or a feeling as if the eyes are being pulled back into the head, this remedy may be indicated. Yellow discharge can stick the eyelids shut, especially in the morning. Warm compresses, and warmth in general, often ease discomfort. Extreme sensitivity to cold, as well as to light and noise, is often seen. The person may be very irritable and touchy. Mercurius solubilis People needing this remedy often feel ill and tired, with erratic body temperature and sensitivity both to heat and cold. Discharge is greenish-yellow and can irritate the lids and margins of the eyes. A person who needs this remedy often has swollen glands, offensive breath, and excessive salivation. Natrum muriaticum Swollen lids with burning tears and a feeling that the eyes are bruised suggest a need for this remedy. Mucus or pus forms and can make the eyelids stick together. People who need this remedy often feel sad and tired, acting irritable if someone shows them sympathy. Pulsatilla Conjunctivitis with thick, yellow, itchy discharge (often accompanying a cold or the measles) suggests a need for this remedy. The person is emotional and sensitive, feeling worse from warmth and in stuffy rooms, and relieved by cool fresh air. Select the medicine that most closely matches the symptoms. In conditions where self-treatment is appropriate, unless otherwise directed by a physician, a lower potency (6X, 6C, 12X, 12C, 30X, or 30C) should be used. In addition, instructions for use are usually printed on the label. Many homeopathic physicians suggest that medicines be used as follows: Take one dose and wait for a response. If improvement is seen, continue to wait and let the medicine work. If improvement lags significantly or has clearly stopped, another dose may be taken. The frequency of dosage varies with the condition and the individual. Sometimes a dose may be required several times an hour; other times a dose may be indicated several times a day; and in some situations, one dose per day (or less) can be sufficient. If no response is seen within a reasonable amount of time, select a different medicine.
General measures: Cleaning the eyelids helps to release the blocked duct. Obviously one must be careful, but my optician recommends gently wiping a cotton bud soaked in a solution of baby shampoo. It sounds frightening and stingy, but it works a treat. Remember it must be baby shampoo (it is alkaline as are the surfaces of your eyes). Homeopathic treatment The classic remedy would be Graphites. It is linked to in-growing eyelashes, blephritis (inflammation of the eyelids), and eczema; all common causes of styes. But it is not a remedy you are sure to find in your chemist or health food store. If you are prone to styes it may be as well to acquire some from a specialist homeopathic supplier. Having said that, Staphysagria is the remedy for recurrent styes. Sulphur is indicated for styes which are swollen and red, causing burning and itching. The lids in this instance would be more oily than dry. Pulsatilla styes are bland, pussy yellow affairs that cause little pain and are usually associated with colds and general “unwellness”. Trauma General Measures: Make sure that there are none of the danger signs as at the beginning of this article. A cold compress will help to prevent swelling, or better still a compress of witch hazel lotion (Hamamelis). Homeopathic treatment Of course, Arnica is the gold standard for trauma injuries, and certainly, if that’s what you have, give it; however, eye injuries respond better to Hamamelis for the bruising and Ledum if the skin has been cut. Again these are not that easily found, but if you are expecting to have eye surgery they can be taken as prophylactics. This includes use for cosmetic surgery, as a colleague of mine will attest to! Eyestrain General Measures Don’t do too much and whatever you’re doing, do it in good light! If you suffer from eye strain regularly it’s important to have your eyes checked by an optician in case you need glasses or are not wearing the correct prescription. The ones you can buy from many chemists etc. are for short-term use only. They do not replace the need for proper optical assessment. Homeopathic treatment: As for all muscular strains, Ruta grave would be the remedy of choice. Twice daily dosing should be sufficient and it should not be used long term. Contact lenses Just a brief note about contact lenses: they should be removed whilst treating any eye conditions, though the remedy itself will not damage them. Particles stuck under a lens and rubbing the cornea can quickly lead to corneal ulcers. The lens should be taken out as soon as possible. Calendula can be used to soothe these minor irritations. The lens should be left out for at least a week to allow the corneal surface to repair. Any major irritations, or where the lens was not removed quickly, need to be examined by an optician. And for those horrid occasions when a soft lens folds itself up and hides under the upper lid, causing jammed-shut eyes, sweating and panic – if you can see to find your remedies, use high potency Aconite. Failing that, in my experience, sitting on the side of the bath and singing to yourself usually works!
Conjunctivitis comes in four varieties: viral, bacterial, and allergic and as a result of a foreign body causing abrasions. Physically the signs are often difficult to distinguish. Allergic conjunctivitis would be bilateral, produce watery discharge and be accompanied by itching. The other conditions would probably start in one eye, the discharge would be thicker and stickier and the pain would be more burning and stinging. But we mustn’t over-generalize and indeed the cause is not so important from a homeopathic point of view. General measures the eyes have a great ability to heal themselves and conjunctivitis is more often than not self-limiting. It helps to bathe the eyes as often as possible with salt water (a teaspoon to a pint of boiled and cooled water), or, if the eyes are especially “sticky”, a mixture of half milk to water, “sterilized” as above. Contact lenses should be removed and discarded if possible or at least thoroughly cleaned to prevent re-infection. Homeopathic Apis mel is useful for allergic conjunctivitis. The conjunctiva are bright red and very swollen, there seem to be water bags under the eyes which leak excess hot fluid. There may be sudden piercing pains. Both eyes are normally affected. With Arsenicum alb the conjunctiva is red, swollen and infected. There is purulent discharge and a burning sensation, but warm compresses ease the pain. The lids may be “crusty” and eye-lashes could fall out. The patient is often panicky and not easily reassured. Argent nit presents a similar picture. The inner canthi of the eye are particularly affected, becoming red and swollen. The patient will be more worried than panicky and will feel better for closing the eyes and pressing them. Belladonna on the other hand presents with a very hot, red, and swollen but essentially dry eye. The condition may have come on very suddenly and any pain associated is throbbing. Characteristically the pupils are dilated, staring and brilliant. The patient will be more cross than panicky. Euphrasia and Allium cepa are normally associated with hay fever or colds. They work almost as opposites. I remember which is which by thinking of the effects of peeling strong onions. Burning nasal discharge, but bland copious tears (even though the eyes themselves will burn), that’s Allium or onion. Euphrasia is the other way round; bland nasal discharge but burning tears which leave a “varnish” on the face. In practice, if people aren’t sure of their symptoms I tell them to try one and if it doesn’t work use the other. Not very scientific but effective in an emergency! The above remedies are the most common ones I recommend. But there are special occasions when others are more appropriate. I’m thinking of Nux vom for the “hangover” type of conjunctivitis; Rhus tox for conjunctivitis associated with a rheumatic cold, or Pulsatilla when there is a general cold with bland yellowy discharges and the patient feels better for rubbing the eyes, whether because of the pain or because they are a mite weepy! I usually recommend 30c potency to be taken every two hours, if necessary for up to two days. Some patients prefer to apply something directly to the eyes, in which case the tablets or pills can be dissolved in a little suitably sterilized water and used as a wash. I don’t think they work any better this way but there may be a psychological advantage. If the condition is no better after two days the patient should seek further advice from an appropriate practitioner.
This refers to infrequent, difficult and sometimes painful evacuation of the bowels. In many ways it is a subjective complaint, since normal opening of the bowels varies from person to person, some people going normally only once or twice a week, and others going normally three or four times a day. Sustained alteration of the bowel habit needs a medical opinion. Aluminais an excellent remedy for very severe constipation in elderly people when the desire to open the bowels seems to have been lost. The individual may sit and strain and even feel impelled to use fingers to try to expel hard, knotty motions. Baryta carbonica. Petite, shy individuals who produce large hard motions when they do open their bowels may be helped by Baryta carbonica. Bryoniais helpful for people who get constipated when they travel and who experience a burning sensation when they open their bowels in this constipated state. Calcarea carbonicais useful in chubby people who paradoxically quite like the sensation of being constipated. They may lose the desire to open their bowels, but suffer no ill effects from it. For children who get quite distressed when they strain to open their bowels, Silicais useful. Straining almost always produces a stinging sensation in the back passage. Diarrhoea Acute episodes of diarrhoea can leave the individual feeling quite drained and weak, as the result of electrolyte loss. Replacement of fluids and electrolytes is the mainstay of treatment, but the following remedies can nip an attack in the bud. Arsenicum albumis extremely useful in very neat, anxious, restless people. The diarrhea produces a burning sen¬sation around the anus, which may become quite red and inflamed. The motions are usually watery and offensive. For cases which start in the early morning or just after midnight China is useful. The motions are watery with undigested residues present. Sulphuris useful for people who are forced out of bed every morning, often at 5 or 6am, by a sudden desire to open the bowels. The motions are loose and extremely offensive. Podophyllumalso helps the sudden urge to open the bowels, especially when the diarrhea is almost explosive. There is usually a lot of gurgling in the abdomen before the urge comes. Strong text Bloating Bloating may arise from excess gas in the stomach, small intestines or the colon. Carbo vegetabilis is a useful remedy when the individual feels chilly, blown up like a drum, and when passing wind both up and down produces ease. Next is China when the same feeling of bloating is not relieved by passing wind. People who gain the most from this remedy are great fantasists. Lastly is Lycopodium. These people are often quite serious types and they classically experience problems in the late afternoon and early evening
This symptom refers to the burning sensation that the individual experiences as acid is squirted into the esophagus from the stomach. A sensation is felt rising through the chest up to the back of the throat. Calcarea carbonicais very good at relieving chronic heartburn in chubby people who get cramps in the stomach, really burning heartburn and who belch noisily. Often they get a sour taste in their throats after belching. Milk often disagrees with them and produces heartburn and indigestion, whereas for most people milk helps. LycopodiumWhen heartburn and regurgitation occurs after only small snacks then will probably bring relief. Typically, the heartburn only spreads up as far as the Adam’s apple, but it tends to last for hours at a time, despite antacids or milk. The stomach often feels bloated during these episodes. Pulsatillais indicated when heartburn is associated with the taste of a food taken hours before. Fatty foods, butter and pork seem to cause these bouts of heartburn, and it is more likely to occur when they are peeved about something or with someone. They rarely feel thirsty. Dyspepsia Dyspepsia is a pain or an uncomfortable feeling in the upper part of the abdomen, usually related to food or meals. It is what most people refer to as indigestion. It can occur at any age and about a quarter of the population will experience it at some time. There are many causes of dyspepsia, and if it is prolonged, a medical opinion should be sought. AnacardiumA band¬-like pain in the upper abdomen which comes on when the person is hungry, and which is relieved for two or three hours after eating, only to recur again, calls out for Anacardium. Indecisiveness is typical with someone in need of this remedy. Argentum nitricum Dyspepsia associated with nausea, a gnawing pain in the upper abdomen and retching of mucus suggest the remedy Argentum nitricum. These folk are often hurried, full of fears, especially as they anticipate a meeting or event, and prone to bouts of loose motions. Nux vomicais well known to people as a remedy of excess, or overindulgence. The pains classically come on about two hours after food. Like Argentum nitricum these people are hurried, but they are less likely to be fearful. Irritability and anger are more in keeping with their temperament. Natrum carbonicum.By contrast, sweet, gentle and self-sacrificing people who experience flatulence and dyspepsia after too many starchy or fatty foods may need Natrum carbonicum. They cannot take milk and very often have multiple food allergies. Phosphorus is extremely useful in people given to ready vomiting with their dyspepsia. They crave cold drinks, which seem to help for a short time, only to be vomited ten minutes or so later.
General tips • Drink a cup of boiled water in the morning before breakfast. This seems to cleanse the stomach and often works wonders. • Eat slowly. One of the main causes of indigestion is unchewed food. • Don’t eat food “piping hot”. Our stomachs are not meant to have hot foods inside them. A useful thing to remember is that if it is hot in the mouth it is hot in the stomach. This includes tea and coffee. Food and drinks that are too hot may disrupt enzymes and injure the lining of the stomach. So, always wait for it to cool. • Don’t eat on the hoof. Meals should be taken at a leisurely pace. If you eat on the move, there is more chance that digestion will not begin. Instead foods in the stomach and intestine will start to ferment, producing gases that bloat you. • Avoid eating fruit with the meal. Tempting though it is, because it seems lighter on the stomach than puddings, it is not good at the end of a meal. This is because fruit digests faster than dense proteins, so fermentation and gas accumulation may occur. • If bloating is a persistent problem, try simplifying your meals. Instead of having lots of food groups at one meal try separating them. For example, proteins need acid enzyme digestive juices, whereas carbohydrates need alkaline enzyme digestive juices. When you have to break down both types all at once you are not achieving optimal enzymatic action, so some fermentation and gas accumulation may occur. • Try taking slightly smaller servings and think twice about second helpings. As a good rule of thumb, try to get into the habit of estimating the quantity you allow yourself using “nature’s food bowl”. Cup your two hands together as if you were using them to make a bowl. The quantity of food that would fill that “bowl” should be your maximum at any meal. • Make sure that you drink enough water. Ideally, hydrate your stomach with a glass of water half an hour before a meal. However, be aware of certain warning symptoms which should not be ignored. An early medical opinion and diagnosis is important in the following situations: • sudden severe abdominal pain; • vomiting, especially if accompanied by abdominal distension; • weight loss which is not from deliberate dieting; • alteration in the normal bowel habit, either with persistent looseness or constipation; • Bleeding from the back passage.
Carbo vegetabilis This remedy relieves bloating and gas in the stomach, with belching. Lycopodium This remedy relieves discomfort and indigestion, with bloating around the waist and gas, especially after eating onions or garlic. Natrum carbonicum This remedy can be helpful to mild people who have trouble digesting and assimilating many foods and have to stay on restricted diets. Indigestion, heartburn, and ulcers can occur if offending foods are eaten. Milk or dairy products can lead to flatulence or sputtery diarrhea that leaves an empty feeling in the stomach. Cravings for potatoes and sweets are common; also milk, but it makes these people sick, so they have usually learned to avoid it. Nux vomica This homeopathic remedy relieves nausea and cramps from indigestion, especially after excessive eating of spicy foods or drinking of alcohol. Pulsatilla This helps relieve gastric discomfort caused by eating too much fatty food, cakes and ice cream, with bloating, belching and slow digestion. Antimonium crudum This relieves indigestion from eating too much, especially rich or acidic foods or cured meat. Symptoms are relieved by applying heat to the abdomen. Arsenicum album This remedy may be indicated if a person feels anxious, restless yet exhausted, and is worse from the smell and sight of food. Burning pain is felt in the stomach and esophagus, which often is relieved by warmth and sitting up. Vomiting and diarrhea are possible. Upsets from spoiled food or from eating too much fruit often respond to this remedy. Bryonia When this remedy is indicated, the stomach feels heavy, with rising acid and a bitter or sour taste. Pain and nausea are worse from motion of any kind. The person may have a dry mouth and be thirsty for long drinks, which may increase discomfort. Bryonia is strongly suggested if a person is grumpy and wants to stay completely still and not be touched or talked to. Cinchona officinalis This remedy relieves bloating of the abdomen and foul-smelling gas, sometimes with painless, but exhausting, diarrhea. Colocynthis This relieves abdominal cramps improved by bending over, with strong pressure and heat. Magnesia phosphorica This remedy relieves abdominal cramps improved by heat and bending over. Natrum phosphoricum A sour taste in the mouth, an acid or burning sensation in the stomach, sour vomiting, regurgitated bits of food, and a yellow coating on the tongue are all indications for this remedy. The person may have problems after consuming dairy products or too much sugar. Another indication for Natrum phos is a craving for fried eggs. Phosphorus Burning pain in the stomach that feels better from eating ice cream or other cold, refreshing foods suggests a need for this remedy. The person is usually thirsty for cold drinks, but often feels nauseous or vomits once liquids warm up in the stomach. People needing Phosphorus may have a tendency toward easy bleeding and sometimes develop stomach ulcers.
Acidity is an extremely common condition that mostly affects people who consume spicy, oily foods and/or alcohol. Acidity occurs due to excess production of acids in the stomach. Normally, the food we consume passes down the oesophagus into the stomach. The gastric glands produce the acid that helps in digestion. Acidity occurs when excess or a large amount of acid is produced in the stomach. This condition is caused due to factors like poor eating habits, irregular lifestyle, lack of physical activities etc. The condition is characterized by symptoms such as heartburn, burning sensation around the chest and in the stomach, vomiting, nausea and restlessness. Acidity often leads to other stomach disorders like- Esophagitis- When the acid in your stomach repeatedly comes in contact with the oesophageal lining, it causes injury including ulcers. Barrett s oesophagus- Damage from acidity causes abnormal changes in the lining of the oesophagus. The cells that are normally found in the lining of the oesophagus get replaced with similar cells not found in the esophagus. This condition is found in about 10% of the people who have chronic Gastroesophageal Reflex Disease (GERD), more commonly known as the acid reflux disorder. Gastritis- This occurs when the stomach lining becomes swollen or inflamed. This condition can last for a short span of time or can last for even years. How homeopathy plays a role in treating acidity and stomach problems- When anything goes wrong with your stomach or digestive system, it’s a clear indication that something is inherently out of order and that your body needs instant help. Homeopathy cures both acidity and other stomach problems. This branch of medicine uses natural remedies that not only help you get rid of stomach disorders, but also eliminates the factors causing such conditions from their roots. The most common drugs used for treating acidity and related stomach disorders are- Nux vomica, Arsenicum album, Natrum carbonicum. These help reduce symptoms like heartburn, indigestion, burning sensation, abdominal pain and chest pain. Homeopathy medications have zero side effects and are completely safe. Moreover, the natural substances used in homeopathic treatment benefit your health immensely in the long run. Digestive problems or stomach disorders can affect any person irrespective of age. Conditions like acidity or acid reflux can be short-term or persistent. Since NSAIDs and other conventional medicines often trigger further complications, it is always advisable to go for safe, natural avenues of treatment such as homeopathy.
Practitioners who treat cardiac patients would not want to be without the remedy Lachesis. The patient who needs Lachesis typically has a strong feeling of fullness in their chest, which accompanies arrhythmias. The feeling of fullness is so severe that the patient will describe it as a bursting sensation. These patients are often worse as they fall asleep, and they cannot tolerate sleeping on the left side. They prefer to sleep on the right side or in a sitting position. They feel much worse in heat or when they become overheated. If the problem is angina, the Lachesis patient might describe a cramping pain in the chest along with the sensation of fullness. It is not uncommon for patients needing Lachesis to have a cough during episodes of cardiac symptoms. Due to the sensation of fullness in the chest and the neck, these patients are unwilling to wear any clothing or jewelry that constricts those areas; they dislike tight clothing and will wear loose-fitting, collarless attire. Due to their extreme warmth, Lachesis patients may wear sandals year-round. Patients with congestive heart failure who require Lachesis have a tremendous feeling of suffocation. They experience a feeling of pressure on the chest; they are awakened by a feeling of choking and must sit up in bed to regain comfort. Many women who benefit from Lachesis first develop cardiac symptoms, such as palpitations or angina, during the perimenopausal years when they are markedly worse, physically and emotionally. It's as if without the monthly menstrual discharge, they suffer. Menstruating women who benefit from Lachesis tend to feel much worse the week before the menses, but will feel better when the flow begins. This applies to their heart symptoms and other physical complaints, as well as to their mental and emotional condition. Many of the Lachesis patient's complaints are accompanied by bluish, purplish skin discoloration or lesions, perhaps on the face or legs (e.g., varicose veins or ulcers). Lachesis patients tend to be quite intense—physically, mentally, and emotionally. They may have a tendency for jealousy, suspiciousness, or paranoia. They may hold onto past angers and insults for a long time and can be difficult to reason with. They are generally quite loquacious: full of ideas, thoughts, and feelings which must be shared with whomever is at hand. It's easy to feel overwhelmed by such patients.
Another constitutional remedy used with cardiac patients is Glonoine (Nitroglycerine). Nitroglycerine was first used in medicine by the brilliant American homeopath, Constantine Hering (1800--1880), some thirty years before it was introduced into allopathic medicine. When prepared homeopathically, this remedy is useful when there is intense palpitation with visible throbbing of the carotid arteries. Accompanying the heart symptoms, the patient has severe pulsating headaches characterized by a sensation of congestion and fullness. They are worse when it's hot, and they flush easily on the chest and face. They are better outside or in cool air. Likewise, if the problem is angina, there is extreme redness of the face during episodes and an attendant headache. Attacks can be triggered by exposure to the sun or by becoming overheated. This aggravation of symptoms from heat is exactly opposite to what you see in a Nux vomica patient, whose symptoms are aggravated by cold. Individualizing differences like these help the homeopath determine which medicine to prescribe. Often these differences seem subtle, and indeed would be largely irrelevant to the allopathic doctor; but to a homeopath, that which is individually characteristic of the patient's complaint is paramount. Patients who need Glonoine may suffer from fainting episodes. They often have a tendency toward confusion, which may be worse at night. When the heart symptoms are aggravated, they may have a tremor in the hands, which makes using them difficult. Glonoine is considered when any symptom in the body is accompanied by throbbing and pulsation along with congestive headaches. We might also consider it for those whose cardiac complaints alternate with headache symptoms. Glonoine is known to help patients in the acute phase of sunstroke, when the head is throbbing and bright red; they feel worse when leaning forward and better from applying cold water to the face.
someone who needs the constitutional remedy Nux vomica might come to see a homeopath because of heart palpitations that are worse when they are overworked, overexcited, or angry. The palpitations tend to be exacerbated by any stimulants including alcohol, spicy food, or caffeinated products. Their palpitations might also be aggravated while they eat or when they become chilly. They might also suffer from angina, which is worse in the same situations mentioned above. Almost all patients who need Nux vomica have a tendency to experience digestive tract problems regardless of what their chief complaint might be. Gastrointestinal disturbances include indigestion, constipation without urge, peptic ulcer, or irritable bowel syndrome. In many of these patients, there is a tendency for hay fever or acute upper respiratory tract infections with frequent sneezing. They tend to be chilly and feel worse in cold weather. People who need Nux vomica tend to have "Type A" personalities, be hard working, and are perhaps even aggressive and strong-willed. They are often in positions of power, and they take control easily. They tend to be irritable and impatient. They are concerned with small details and conscientious about all manner of things: the way they dress, the way they keep their home and office, and the quality of work they do, for example. This tendency leads to competitiveness and impressive drive. They tend to expect the same high standards from others, both at home and at work, hence the easy irritability and anger. They may have strong tempers and can be unapologetic. During acute illnesses, the emotional temperament of those who need Nux vomica tends to be even more extreme. People needing Nux vomica also tend to suffer from insomnia, especially in the middle of the night: they find themselves awake and thinking about work, their responsibilities, and other tasks that need to be addressed. When we see a patient who has been this way for quite a while, they are sometimes in a state of exhaustion. Years of living at such a workaholic pace have taken their toll, and the resultant physical symptoms can no longer be ignored. So it is the physical symptoms that bring this patient to the doctor, and the homeopath seeks to understand those symptoms in the context of the underlying issues. When the symptoms match and we prescribe this remedy, we would expect all aspects of the Nux vomica patient to improve—from their palpitations or angina to their insomnia, constipation, and irritability. Lifestyle modification recommendations are made cautiously to a patient who needs Nux vomica, as they tend to overdo whatever suggestions are made.

High blood pressure is a common condition in which the long-term force of the blood against your artery walls is high enough that it may eventually cause health problems, such as heart disease. Blood pressure is determined both by the amount of blood your heart pumps and the amount of resistance to blood flow in your arteries. The more blood your heart pumps and the narrower your arteries, the higher your blood pressure. You can have high blood pressure (hypertension) for years without any symptoms. Even without symptoms, damage to blood vessels and your heart continues and can be detected. Uncontrolled high blood pressure increases your risk of serious health problems, including heart attack and stroke. High blood pressure generally develops over many years, and it affects nearly everyone eventually. Fortunately, high blood pressure can be easily detected. Blood pressure varies naturally with activity, rising from exercise or stress and falling during rest. It also varies among individuals, gradually increasing with age and weight. Blood pressure is expressed as two values given in millimeters of mercury. The blood pressure of a resting, healthy young adult should not be more than 120/80 mm of mercury. In a general a person is considered to have hypertension when his or her blood pressure is persistently higher than 140/90 mm of mercury, even at rest. Persistent high blood pressure that may damage the arteries and the heart Causes--There are two types of high blood pressure. Primary (essential) hypertension: For most adults, there's no identifiable cause of high blood pressure. This type of high blood pressure, called primary (essential) hypertension, tends to develop gradually over many years. Secondary hypertension: Some people have high blood pressure caused by an underlying condition. This type of high blood pressure, called secondary hypertension, tends to appear suddenly and cause higher blood pressure than does primary hypertension. Symptoms--Most people with high blood pressure have no signs or symptoms, even if blood pressure readings reach dangerously high levels. A few people with high blood pressure may have headaches, shortness of breath or nosebleeds, but these signs and symptoms aren't specific and usually don't occur until high blood pressure has reached a severe or life-threatening stage. Risk factors--High blood pressure has many risk factors, including: Age-Risk factors- The risk of high blood pressure increases as you age. Through early middle age, or about age 45, high blood pressure is more common in men. Women are more likely to develop high blood pressure after age 65. Race. High blood pressure is particularly common among blacks, often developing at an earlier age than it does in whites. Serious complications, such as stroke, heart attack and kidney failure, also are more common in blacks. Family history. High blood pressure tends to run in families. Being overweight or obese. The more you weigh the more blood you need to supply oxygen and nutrients to your tissues. As the volume of blood circulated through your blood vessels increases, so does the pressure on your artery walls. Not being physically active. People who are inactive tend to have higher heart rates. The higher your heart rate, the harder your heart must work with each contraction and the stronger the force on your arteries. Lack of physical activity also increases the risk of being overweight. Using tobacco. Not only does smoking or chewing tobacco immediately raise your blood pressure temporarily, but the chemicals in tobacco can damage the lining of your artery walls. This can cause your arteries to narrow, increasing your blood pressure. Secondhand smoke also can increase your blood pressure. Too much salt (sodium) in your diet. Too much sodium in your diet can cause your body to retain fluid, which increases blood pressure. Too little potassium in your diet. Potassium helps balance the amount of sodium in your cells. If you don't get enough potassium in your diet or retain enough potassium, you may accumulate too much sodium in your blood. Too little vitamin D in your diet. It's uncertain if having too little vitamin D in your diet can lead to high blood pressure. Vitamin D may affect an enzyme produced by your kidneys that affects your blood pressure. Drinking too much alcohol. Over time, heavy drinking can damage your heart. Having more than two drinks a day for men and more than one drink a day for women may affect your blood pressure. Stress. High levels of stress can lead to a temporary increase in blood pressure. If you try to relax by eating more, using tobacco or drinking alcohol, you may only increase problems with high blood pressure Certain chronic conditions. Certain chronic conditions also may increase your risk of high blood pressure, such as kidney disease, diabetes and sleep apnea. Sometimes pregnancy contributes to high blood pressure, as well. Although high blood pressure is most common in adults, children may be at risk, too. For some children, high blood pressure is caused by problems with the kidneys or heart. But for a growing number of kids, poor lifestyle habits, such as an unhealthy diet, obesity and lack of exercise, contribute to high blood pressure. Complications-The excessive pressure on your artery walls caused by high blood pressure can damage your blood vessels, as well as organs in your body. The higher your blood pressure and the longer it goes uncontrolled, the greater the damage. Uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to: Heart attack or stroke. High blood pressure can cause hardening and thickening of the arteries (atherosclerosis), which can lead to a heart attack, stroke or other complications. Aneurysm. Increased blood pressure can cause your blood vessels to weaken and bulge, forming an aneurysm. If an aneurysm ruptures, it can be life-threatening. Heart failure. To pump blood against the higher pressure in your vessels, your heart muscle thickens. Eventually, the thickened muscle may have a hard time pumping enough blood to meet your body's needs, which can lead to heart failure. Weakened and narrowed blood vessels in your kidneys. This can prevent these organs from functioning normally. Thickened, narrowed or torn blood vessels in the eyes. This can result in vision loss. Trouble with memory or understanding. Uncontrolled high blood pressure may also affect your ability to think, remember and learn. Trouble with memory or understanding concepts is more common in people with high blood pressure.
Tendinitis, the inflammation of a tendon, occurs at the joints of the human body, including the ankle, knee, hip, wrist, elbow and shoulder. Commonly the result of a repetitive stress injury or from overuse, tendinitis occurs where a muscle attaches to a bone. Tendons, like ligaments, are made of fibrous soft tissue, which is strong and flexible, yet can cause pain when injured. Several homeopathic remedies are available to treat and reduce the pain of tendinitis. Consultation with a qualified practitioner should be sought for chronic conditions. Arnica Montana The homeopathic remedy Arnica montana, also known as leopard's bane, is a small flowering mountain plant which, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center, is "often the first remedy used for injuries such as sprains and bruises." It is indicated in tendinitis when the injury to the soft tissue has specifically resulted from a sudden, blunt trauma. Arnica montana is available both as a topical gel to be applied to an inflamed joint and in tablet form. Taken at the first sign of injury, Arnica may help speed recovery. As with many homeopathic remedies, it is available over-the-counter in health food stores and pharmacies. Two tablets may be taken three times a day, which should be allowed to dissolve under the tongue. Directions are also indicated on the label. Rhus Toxicodendron Commonly known as poison ivy, Rhus toxicodendron is another homeopathic remedy available in tablet form used to treat tendinitis. It is one of the most important joint remedies used in homeopathy, especially when the associated pain of the inflammation is a burning or bruised sensation. One of the main indications for using this remedy after a sprain or injury to a tendon is a feeling of restlessness. Initial movement of the joint is painful, but with continued activity, the pain eases. Rhus tox is useful in treating tendinitis that has resulted from overuse or from an injury from repetitive stress, such as the condition known as tennis elbow. Ruta Graveolens The pain associated with tendinitis that will respond particularly well to Ruta graveolens is one of feeling bruised or beaten. Similar to the symptoms of Rhus tox, a person needing Ruta for treatment of inflammation will feel worse from cold air or applications, and worse in wet weather. However, pain is relieved by motion, or activity of the affected part. In "A Physician's Posy," homeopath and doctor Dorothy Shepherd writes of Ruta graveolens that it is should be used "when there is slow repair, when there are hardened masses in tendons with contractions of the flexor muscles." In other words, Ruta is the indicated homeopathic remedy where tendinitis is slow to heal. Dr. Andrew Weil advises taking Rhus tox or Ruta for the treatment of tendinitis in the 6c to 30c potency. Both remedies are sold over-the-counter as supplements.

Arthritis – inflammation of the joint(s). Inflammation is one of the body’s normal reactions to injury or disease. It is part of the body’s natural defenses, and works to repair the problem. When injury occurs in a damaged or diseased joint, the end result is swelling, pain, and stiffness. Joints are the places where the bones meet. The body would be immobile if not for the movements afforded by the joints. Joints can be large or small, and permit movements as varied as walking, bending, reaching, and performing fine motor skills. Within the joints, the ends of the bones are covered with a smooth, white, glistening material called hyaline cartilage. When normal, this material cushions the underlying bone against excessive pressure and allows the joint to move easily and without pain. Osteoarthritis There are more than 100 different types of arthritis. The most common type is called osteoarthritis, which is sometimes known as degenerative joint disease (DJD). It is most often the result of normal “wear and tear” and occurs to some extent in all people as they age. All joints can be effected, however, the most commonly involved are the weight bearing joints such as the hip, knee and spine. They must withstand the significant forces generated by walking and running, and therefore are prone to wearing out. When the articular cartilage is damaged or injured, it usually goes through a staged process of softening, flaking, fragmenting, and finally complete loss, where the underlying bone is exposed. This process is commonly known as osteoarthritis or OA. Arthritis Risk Factors: Obesity - Generally, the more weight a person carries, the greater the pressure on weight-bearing joints of the body. Past injury in a joint - There is an increased risk of developing OA in a joint that is not properly aligned or one that has been injured. Occupational factors - Repetitive tasks, overworking the joints and overtiring muscles that protect a joint increase the risk for OA in that joint. Blood is the fluid that conveys oxygen and nutrients to the cells and carries away carbon dioxide and other waste substances. In fact, blood act as a vehicle fluid pumped by the heart to all parts of the body, after which it is come back to the heart to rehash the procedure. Blood is composed of variety of elements cells, non-cellular fragments, liquid and non-liquid hormones proteins.

Diabetes mellitus often simply referred to as diabetes-is a condition in which a person has high blood sugar, either because the body doesn't produce enough insulin, or because cells don't respond to the insulin that is produced. This high blood sugar produces the classical symptoms of polyuria (frequent urination), polydipsia (increased thirst) and polyphagia (increased hunger). There are three main types of diabetes: Type 1 diabetes: results from the body's failure to produce insulin, and presently requires the person to inject insulin. Type 2 diabetes: results from insulin resistance, a condition in which cells fail to use insulin properly, sometimes combined with an absolute insulin deficiency. Gestational diabetes: is when pregnant women, who have never had diabetes before, have a high blood glucose level during pregnancy. It may precede development of type 2 DM.
The word "Obesity "is derived from Greek words "Ab" meaning excess and "edere" overeating. It is condition in which there is as imbalance between the eating of food and consumption of the food, resulting in increase in weight. Strictly saying obesity is a state in which excess fat accumulates and deposits itself in various part of the body, thus increasing its weight. "OBESITY Generalized weight excess due to accumulation of fat beyond 10 to 20 percent of normal range for the particular age, sex and height. It is generally due to excess food intake, often because of psychogenic factors, really to endocrine disturbance and here do familial facts. TYPES OF OBESITY: In short physical state in which excessive fat is stored at various sites in the body. BUFFALO OBESITY: The type of obesity usually seen in Cushing syndrome, confined chiefly to the trunk, face and neck also called adreno cortical obesity. ENDOCRINE OBESITY: That due to dysfunction of the endocrine glands. HYPOTHALAMIC Obesity: The resulting from disturbance of function of appetite regulating centers of Hypothalamus. INCIDENCE AND ETIOLOGY: Ordinary obesity is quite common, especially in middle life, extreme obesity or localized accumulation of body fat the less common and suggest unusual etiologic facts. Although heredity may play a contributory role, three is only one immediate cause of obesity a caloric intake persistently exceeding caloric output. Since the capacity of the body to stored protein and carbohydrate is strictly limited, excess food in any form is converted in to, and stored as a fat. Obesity often is divided in to exogenous and endogenous types. Actually, obesity par- takes dual factors in both exogenous (due to excessive food, absolute or relative) and endogenous (since the caloric imbalance results from a disturbed mechanism, psychological or physiologic) thus even if simple habits of overeating or lack of exercise appear to be the only overt cause. One should search carefully for some abnormal state physical, mental or both that may underline these observations.
Human Heart is wrapped up in pericardium layer, located between the right and left side of the chest cavity. Its a muscular organ which major function is to pump the blood with the help of circulatory system in whole body. Same time supplies the oxygen along with nutrients to all tissues. It also helps to remove the carbon dioxide from the body.
Kidney stone can be painful. It is caused due to the improper function of the kidney. Stone starts to form when the organ is unable to flush out the trash and hence the gradual deposits form a stone. The allopathic cure for stone involves pumping
There has been work on parameters like(a) what benefits do patients derive from homoeopathy? (b) which patients are treated by homeopathy (c) what risks are associated with homoeopathic treatment and (d) what is the cost benefit??. Results are
Stress is not an obsession but an anxiety for me. Recent research in different fields of diseases is obsessed with stress mania and tends to list this as one of the factors. If sale is any indicator, anti-stress drugs from alcohol to
Homoeopathy scores a point of advantage as this system has the relationship between the drugs and the personality patterns of the patients. With the knowledge of endocrinology, we learn about the hormones of different ductless glands, and their influence over mental& biological makeup of the individual. Different glands have different functions but they seem to act synergistically. Very often the disordered functions of one gland with hypo or hyper functions puts us out of tract in selection of a "totality based similar drug". But study of case does indicate as simillimum.
Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), headed by environment activist Sunita Narain, recently said that most junk food contain very high levels of trans-fat, sugar and salt, enough to cause obesity, diabetes and hypertension, and called for stricter regulations. It needs to be considered by the physician and the people aware of the future health problems of growing children and growing adults. Please remember the strength of the findings of CSE. Some time back an impact of its findings of high level of pesticides in colas in 2003 and again in 2006 had dented sales of Coca-Cola and PepsiCo during 2004-06 because of awareness of their bad effect. The incidence of pesticides is considered unsafe as the consumer did not know the product contained it. Such findings are not liked by the promoters of such products but are in the interest of health of growing children and adults fond of fast foods and cold-drinks.
